Obituary

UNION: Services for Mr. Vernon Ray Reeves of Decatur will be held 3:00 pm, Sunday, June 23, 2024 at Milling Funeral Home Chapel of Union with burial in the Mt. Zion Congregational Methodist Church Cemetery. Rev. Mark Vincent will officiate.

Visitation will be held 2:00 pm-3:00 pm on Sunday at Milling Funeral Home of Union.

Vernon Ray Reeves, 89, passed away on June 19, 2024. He was born October 29, 1934 and was a lifelong resident of Decatur, Mississippi.

As a young man, Mr. Reeves worked at Thames Tractor in Decatur and served in the United States Air Guard. He worked for the American Breeder Service several years before beginning his 29 year career as a dairy farmer. He retired from dairy farming in 1997 and enjoyed spending time with family and growing tomatoes and peaches. He was a faithful member of Clarke Venable Baptist Church and enjoyed outings with his Sunday School class when he was still able to travel.

Survivors include daughter Susan Horton (Blane), son Mike Reeves, son-in-law Johnnie Thorne; grandchildren Jenny Tadlock (Nathan), Luke Horton (Lauren), Josh Reeves (Ashley), Matt Reeves, Hope Buckley, Jeremy Buckley (Adrienne), Nolan Thorne (Katie), and Charles Thorne (Bella); sister Burma Jean Weidler, sister Virginia Harrison (Bobby), and brother Kent Reeves (Beth); 16 great-grandchildren ; 1 great-great granddaughter; special friends Chris and DeAnne Harris.

Mr. Reeves is proceeded in death by his wife, Annette Reeves, who he was married to for 64 years; daughter Laura Thorne; parents Vernon and Daisy Reeves; great-grandson Samuel Reeves.

The family wishes to thank the staff at JG Alexander Nursing Home and Quality Hospice for the care they showed Mr. Reeves during the past two and a half years.

Pallbearers: Ethan Horton, Josh Reeves, Matt Reeves, Cole Tadlock, Charles Thorne and Nolan Thorne.
