Graveside services for Mr. Tommy Lewis Hitt of Ocean Springs, Ms will be held 2 pm, Sunday, December 22, 2019 at Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery.

Bro. Rusty Walton will officiate.

Mr. Hitt, 84, of Ocean Springs, Ms, passed away on December 18, 2019.

Survivors:

10 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marshall and Tolie Hitt.

Mr. Tommy Lewis Hitt was born as a paraplegic in April 1935. When he was 7 years old, he had surgery to hopefully increase his ability to walk and was placed in a body cast for 6 months, but it was unsuccessful. Even though he never got to walk, he was fitted for braces and crutches over the years. His mother being an educator was determined that he go to school and get his education. He graduated from Beulah Hubbard High School, Meridian Junior College, University of Southern Miss, and also William Carey University, Where he received his Masters Degree. Mr. Hitt retired after 25 years of teaching at St. Martin Elementary School in Biloxi, Mississippi. Despite his disability, he never expressed any feelings about it and went on to live a productive and independent life. He was an inspiration to all of his siblings, nieces and nephews. He will truly be missed.
