Shirley grew up and spent much of her life in the New Ireland community between Union and Sebastapol, MS. Daughter of Mason and Queenie Vance Gomillion, she first attended grade school in New Ireland, and eventually transitioned to Union where she graduated from high school. Following in family tradition, she attended and graduated from Clarke College in Newton, MS, where she met and fell in love with Chester T. Estes, Jr. of Ocean Springs, MS. Upon marriage to Chester, Shirley took the role of pastor's wife, church pianist and secretary, and WMU director in many of the churches where Chester pastored. All this while engaged in an administrative career which spanned the Southeast for over 50 years. Whether serving in Vacation Bible Schools during summer or concession stands with the band boosters at Union High School, she could always be counted upon to love her community or church members and see the best in all she met. We love and miss her but rejoice in the life she is now living in the presence of Jesus.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Gideon's International.
