Patsy Ruth Heflin Vance, lovingly know as "Nanny" to many, passed away on April 13, 2024 at 7:20 p.m. surrounded by her family. She was a young 83 years old and still doing her own yard work until a heart attack in December 2023.

Visitation will be held 4 pm - 7 pm, Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at Milling Funeral Home of Union.

Services will be held at First Baptist Church of Union, Thursday, April 18, 2024 at 10:00 AM with visitation from 9:00-10:00 prior to service.

Dr. Corey Fontan & Bro. Glenn Toney will officiate.

She is survived by one sister, Bonnie Heflin Jones; her daughters Vicky (Mark) Tiller of Baton Rouge, Stephanie (Jeff) Mattox of DeKalb and Tina (Don) Thomas of Union; her grandchildren Amy (Jason) Martin of Baton Rouge, Emily (Andrew) Wascom of Baton Rouge, Tiffany (Kevin) Bouchillon of Union and Jay Thomas of Union; three step-grandchildren, Sarah, TJ and Michael Mattox; her great grandchildren Grace, Audrey and Brooks Martin, Eden and Anna Wascom, Miken and Rylynn Bouchillon, and Kyler Thomas; a niece, Suzi Horton McDill; and many other wonderful extended family members. She is preceded in death by the love of her life, Billie Gerald Vance; her parents, Barto and Etta Heflin; one grandchild, April Rose Gomez; three sisters, Rosell Nicholson, Geneva Horton and Mary 'Tootsie' Ricks; seven brothers, Onree Heflin, Billy Heflin, Harstn Heflin, Cobert Heflin, Shelby Heflin, Fred Heflin and Wiggle Heflin.

The youngest of 12 children, Patsy was raised primarily by her father and older siblings, as her mother passed away when she was just four years old. Patsy attended Beulah Hubbard High School where she played on the ladies' basketball team. She married Billie Vance in 1957. They had a wonderful life and lived in many different places in Louisiana, Ohio and Mississippi. While her primary job was always being a mother and a welder's wife, she also managed shopping malls in Ohio and Michigan, owned "The Front Door Restaurant" in Decatur, worked at McClain-Hays and Milling funeral homes and cooked for many years at The Congregate Housing in Union. Her work allowed her to serve many people and make lifelong friends.

Billie and Patsy settled back in Union in 1981 where they remained. Patsy was a faithful member at First Baptist Church, Union for 43 years. She especially enjoyed her Sunday School class and serving meals with the ladies on the Bereavement Committee. She loved cooking and was most well known for her biscuits, chicken and dumplings, cornbread dressing and pecan pie. You never left her house hungry. She loved taking care of her grandchildren and great grandchildren and watching her great grandsons play baseball with the Union Stingers.

The family would like to thank the medical staff at UAB, UMMC,  Anderson's and Laird Hospitals who provided such great love and care over the past four months. We especially thank Dr. Michael McMullan at UMMC for treating her as he would have his own mother during her stay there. Patsy's favorite medical team was right here in Union at Hometown Urgent Care and Robinson Dental. Thank you, Austin Miller and Loren Robinson and all your staff for loving her so well.
