Sebastopol:

Services for Mr. Nolen Sistrunk will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, January 5, 2020, at Sebastopol Baptist Church . Burial will be held in the Sebastopol City Cemetery. Rev. H.L. Rhodes and Rev. Jay Clark will officiate.

Visitation will be held 5:00-8:00 pm, Saturday, January 4, 2020, at Sebastopol Baptist Church. Also, 1:30-2:00 pm prior to services on Sunday at the church.

Survivors: Loving wife of 59 years: Elaine Sistrunk of Sebastopol

2 Daughters: Tammy Bennett of Sebastopol

Karen Moorehead and husband Chad of Sebastopol

5 Grandchildren: Mikaela Mayes and husband Dylan, Peyton Bennett, Keyton Bennett, Haven Moorehead and Hayden Moorehead

1Great-Granddaughter: Brinley Mayes

He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Nolen is preceded in death by his parents: Lavion and Mary Sistrunk; one brother: J.T. Sistrunk.

Overcoming obstacles, Nolen Sistrunk created life for a small town and life for his family and friends.

Nolen,  with a single truck in 1959 and a desire to make a good life, created a trucking company that grew to 30 trucks that traversed the nation under his name until his partial retirement in 2009.  Even though he retired from the day-to-day business operations, he remained fully invested in the industry until his death.

While he steadily built the trucking company, in 1966 he also built his first chicken house that would become a large farm of over 50 broiler houses helping to develop the state's number one industry  and  employing families and creating opportunities for people who would become dear friends.
Even though Nolen invested time, money, and energy in his trucking company and his poultry farms, he also found time to start and oversee N.S. Pallets for over 40 years. Again, he  created industry and opportunity in Sebastopol.   He would later be co-owner of the local Piggly Wiggly.
He loved to travel, but his heart was in his hometown, Sebastopol. He faithfully served on the town board for many years and was elected mayor in 1991.  He fully supported the Sebastopol Benefit Committee and the Sebastopol Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed the Annual October Squirrel Camp, and he created spaces where people could gather and talk and be a part of each other's lives. He liked people, and he loved dogs, but Lucky was special and everybody knew.   His heart was in Sebastopol because his investments in business were centered there, and his investments in people and their lives were there as well, and those investments remain his greatest legacy.
He was an active and beloved member of Sebastopol Baptist Church.
