UNION:

Services for Ms. Mae Carby will be held 10 am, Thursday, November 3, 2022 at Milling Funeral Home Chapel of Union with burial in the Union City Cemetery. Bro. Rick Benson and Bro. Therman Hodge will officiate.

Visitation will be held 6 pm- 8pm, Wednesday, November 2 at Milling Funeral Home of Union.

Ms. Carby, 84, of Kosciusko, formally of Union died Monday, October 31, 2022.

Mable "Mae" Ruby Vaughn Carby was born on February 2, 1938 in Kemper County in what is now called the town of Dekalb. She was born to parents, Joe C. Vaughn and Ruby Poole Higginbotham. Out of the twelve children born to Joe and Ruby, Mae was the seventh child. Mae was a tomboy as a child and was very close to her father. Her best friend as a child was her older sister, Pearl. She moved away from home as a teen and moved in with another sister, Sue. At this time, Sue was running a café in downtown Jackson to work. Mae moved into the top floor of the café with Sue and her husband. She then began working at the Peoples Café. This is where she met her husband, William A. Carby. Mae and William were married in 1955. They had their first child, Sherry Lynn Carby (Moody), on October 15, 1957. Their second Child, William Craig Carby, on August 13, 1960. Followed by their third child, Kenneth Allen Carby, on October 4, 1961. Their fourth child, Jessica Leigh Carby, was born June 20, 1983. Mae and Bill have 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Mae was a Certified Nursing Assistant for the entirety of her adult life until she retired at age 65. She had several hobbies and stayed busy all of the time. She loved to spend time with her family and her friends. Mae's hobbies included: quilting, crocheting, gardening, baking, and being outside in the nature. She put up and canned most of the food she grew in her gardens and on her fruit trees. She was a huge animal lover. It would be next to impossible to count the many animals she saved and cared for over her lifetime. Animals made her happy. Mae was selfless. She always put her family, friends, and even her animals first. She loved to read books and her bible. She was all of these wonderful things, but most importantly, she was a child of God.

Ms. Carby was preceded in death by her parents, Joe C Vaughn, Ruby Higginbottom Vaughn; her husband, William A (Bill )Carby; five brothers and four sisters.
