UNION: Services for Mr. Joseph Decosta Williamson will be held at 11:00am, Friday, January 26, 2024 at Milling Funeral Home Chapel of Union. Burial will be held at Duffee Baptist Church. Bro. Phillip Gandy and Bro. Rusty Walton will officiate.

Joseph Decosta Williamson, age 74, of Ocean Springs, MS passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by family, on Thursday, January 18, 2024.

Joseph was born in Meridian, MS, and spent his childhood in the Little Rock, MS area. Joseph loved sports. He attended Tennessee Temple on a baseball scholarship. He worked briefly as a football coach, then went on to teach history while simultaneously pursuing a degree in higher education. Joseph graduated from William Carey College with a Specialist in Education degree. Joseph retired as a principal from Jackson County Schools after a twenty-plus-year career.

In his retirement, Joseph served multiple terms as an Election Commissioner in Newton County, MS. He was also an active member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

He is survived by his daughter: Laura Michaud (Craig), his two granddaughters: Isabella and Colette, his sisters: Ann Martin and Phyllis Williamson, and his brothers: Jimmy Williamson and Mike Williamson, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

Joseph was preceded in death by his wife: Elizabeth Williamson, his parents: Ida Bell and Charles D. Williamson, and his brothers: Tom, Jerry, and William Williamson.
