John Allen Smith age 71 of Douglasville, Georgia passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2022 at his residence.

John was born in Union, Mississippi on December 12, 1950 the son of the late Alvis Smith and Ruby Williams Smith. He worked many years for Norfolk Southern prior to his retirement. John enjoyed the outdoors fishing with family and friends. He was a University of Alabama football fan. John especially enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren. He was a veteran having served our country in the National Guard and he was Baptist by faith.

He is survived by his wife, Rachel Hammock Smith of ten years, daughter and son-in-law, Shonda and Brett Meskimen, Japan, step children, Lora Grosh (Michael), Hiram, Georgia, Matthew Tatum (Heather), Cumming, Georgia, Mark Tatum (Tammy), Buchanan, Georgia, grandson, Ethan Meskimen, step grandchildren, Jonathan Tatum, Luke Grosh, Kaitlyn Grosh, Luc Watts, Sadie Tatum, Christine Tatum, Cash Tatum and Ruthie Tatum; brother, Harold Smith, Union Mississippi; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife on November 25, 2010, Zaundra Smith and brother, Colin Smith.

The family will have a private viewing on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at J. Collins Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 22, 2022, 12:00 noon, at Hillsboro Baptist Church Cemetery in Forest, Mississippi with Pastor Rusty Walton officiating.
