Obituary

Funeral Services for Mr. John "Bubba" Franklin will be held at 10:30 am, Friday, August 4, 2023 at Milling Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Union City Cemetery. Father Jofin George will officiate.

Visitation will held one hour prior to services at Milling Funeral Home in Union.

Mr. Franklin, age 75, of Union passed away on Tuesday, August 1, 2023.

John Harbin Franklin was born to Ben and Maude Franklin January 17, 1948. He was the youngest of five children. His formative years were spent in Union where he worked a paper route and as a grocery store bag boy. He graduated from Union High School, attended East Central Junior College and the University of Mississippi, and served in the Mississippi Army National Guard. Bubba and Nancy married in August of 1970 and have enjoyed almost 53 years of wedded bliss.
Mr. John "Bubba" Franklin worked for 25+ years at the Lewis/Super Value Grocery Company, where he served as a Store Manager, Retail Counselor, and Warehouse Inventory Specialist. Bubba enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, camping, and hiking. He spent his free time hiking the 2190+ miles of Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine 2 weeks at a time. After retirement he volunteered for the National Park Service for 10 years, serving as a campground host and visitor center greeter for seven national parks and sea shores. Bubba and Nancy traveled the country camping along the way at over 100 National, State, and Private parks. He is loved by so many friends and family and will be sorely missed.

Wife of 53 years: Nancy Franklin of Union
1 Son: Jay Franklin and wife Stacey of Union
1 Daughter: Rebekah Ward and husband Joey of Union
4 Grandchildren: Rivers Harbin Franklin, Cross Hayes Franklin, Gentry Carol Ward and Kapp Franklin Ward
3 Sisters: Becky Eichelberger (Jimmy Dale), Pequita Latimer and Sara Fornea (Larry)
He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Franklin was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Maude Franklin and one sister, Nancy F. Alexander
Pallbearers: Rivers Franklin, Cross Franklin, Kapp Franklin Ward, Jim Eichelberger, Jud Alexander, and David Addy
