Union: Services for Dr. James E. Yelverton, Jr., DMD, will be held at 3:00pm, Sunday, August 13, 2023 at Milling Funeral Home of Union. Burial will be held in Decatur City Cemetery. Rev. Mark Vincent will officiate.

Visitation will be held from 1:30-3:00pm prior to services on Sunday.

Dr. Yelverton, age 65, passed away on Friday, August 11, 2023. James Edward Yelverton, Jr. was born on September 5, 1957, in Corpus Christi, TX to James "Jimmy" and Gloria Yelverton. He was the first born of four children. He spent the majority of his childhood in South Mississippi where he attended elementary school in Poplarville. The family moved to Jackson in 1968, and he graduated from McCluer High School. James attended Belhaven College and then The University of Mississippi Medical Center Dental School where he graduated at the top of the Class of 1983. On May 20, 1978, James married his high school sweetheart, Rebecca Ann Yates. The young couple lived in Jackson until James completed dental school, then they moved to Decatur where they started the private dental practice, "Decatur Family Dental", in July of 1983. Dr. James and Mrs. Becky welcomed their daughter, Erin, in 1984, and their son, Billy, in 1990. They raised their two children on East Broad Street in Decatur and practiced dentistry on Hwy 15 N for twenty-five years. Dr. James was very involved in his community, church, and the local schools where most people lovingly referred to him as "Doc". In 2021, Dr. James officially retired and went home to his "Pondominium" in Conehatta. He spent his last two years enjoying fishing with his grandkids, nephews, and friends, taking several vacations and camping trips, hosting the infamous, annual "Squirrel Camp", and attending the many activities of his children and grandchildren. Dr. James was a child of God, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and a friend to all. Though our hearts were not ready, we rejoice and praise the Lord that he is now fully healed!

Dr. Yelverton is preceded in death by his father: James "Jimmy" Yelverton Sr., his mother: Gloria Bell Broom Yelverton, father-in-law: Billy Ray Yates, and mother-in-law: Nell Miley-Yates
