Services for Mr. James Earl "Catfish" Stevenson will be held at 3:00 pm, Monday, June 22, 2020 at Milling Funeral Home Chapel of Union.  Burial will be held in the Union City Cemetery. Bro. Wayne Griffith will officiate.

Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 pm Sunday, June 21, 2020 at Milling Funeral Home Chapel of Union.

Mr. James Earl "Catfish" Stevenson, age: 64, of Decatur died on Friday, June 19, 2020.

Survivors:  Loving wife of 21 years: Susan Stevenson of Decatur

1Daughter: Amanda Mazingo (Brandon) of Terry

2 Grandsons: James Mazingo and Tandy Mazingo both of Terry

Mr. James Earl "Catfish" Stevenson is preceded in death by his parents: Fate and Mary Francis Stevenson.

James E. Stevenson "Catfish" was a dedicated and faithful member of the fire service for over 26 years. Catfish joined Newton Fire Department in 1994 where he began his fire service career. Catfish was a volunteer while at Newton FD and that class sparked a passion for training. In 2000, Catfish and Susan moved to Conehatta and he joined Greenfield Fire Department where he was active member up until his death. Catfish served as Training Officer for the department for over 9 years and only recently gave up that position when he became sick. In 2009, Catfish also joined Sebastopol Fire Department where he also served as Training Officer up until his death. Catfish had a passion for teaching others and making sure everyone was trained. He played an integral part in launching SFD Student Fire Reserve Program in the fall of 2019, and was a program advisor. He was a member of the SFD Executive Committee, serving since March 2019. Was also an active member of SFD Benefit and Fundraising Committee. Catfish was a member of the Scott County Firefighters' Association since 2009 and a member of the MS Firefighters' Association since 2014. He touched many lives in both Newton County and Sebastopol through his knowledge , education and experience .

MILLING FUNERAL HOME.
