UNION: Services for Mr. Elton Davis Wall will be held 4:30 pm, Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at First Baptist Church of Union with burial in the Union City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held 3 pm- 4:30 pm, Tuesday, April 9 at First Baptist Church of Union. Dr. Corey Fontan & Bro. Rusty Walton will officiate.

Elton Davis Wall, 92, passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at his home surrounded by family. He was born on January 9, 1932 in the Erin Community of Newton County, Mississippi, to Robert E. Wall and Floy Easom Wall.

Elton grew up with few material things but was blessed by an abundance of love from a close family. From childhood, he learned the value of hard work required on a family farm. He attended school in Conehatta and played on the basketball teams there and at East Central Junior College.

During the Korean War, Elton served his country in the Mississippi National Guard and United States Navy. As part of Antisubmarine Sq 36, he was able to travel to different parts of the world as a crew member flying the Grumman TBM 3S.

After returning home from the Navy, Elton met his loving and devoted wife, Sandra Lou Harris of Union, marrying in 1957. He then continued his education by receiving his Bachelor's Degree in Math and Science from Mississippi College, followed by a Master's Degree in Mathematics, with minors in Physics and Zoology, all while teaching at the high school and college levels. He concluded his formal education with a Specialist Degree in School Administration from Mississippi State University.

A lifelong learner and educator, Elton served 27 years in Mississippi public schools. At Beulah Hubbard, Taylorsville, Union, and Hickory, Elton served as a teacher, coach, and principal. During this time he received two Star Teacher awards and numerous coaching awards. After serving as Superintendent of Newton County Schools, Elton officially retired but continued to fill in as a teacher well into his 70s. He never lost his drive to learn and could be found at home in later years reading encyclopedias and old textbooks, or working out chemistry and calculus equations.

Beyond education, Elton firmly believed that we all have civic responsibilities on the local, state and national levels. At the farm, he was a cattleman, game bird producer, member of the Forestry Association, and year-round gardener. Elton was also a dedicated member, Sunday school teacher and choir member at First Baptist Church in Union. He was a father who instilled the value of hard work, frugality, modesty, and kindness in his children. He approached life as a servant leader as he believed our Heavenly Father wanted us all to do. These are the things that will not soon be forgotten by those who loved him.

Elton was preceded in death by his father, mother, and siblings Ava Lou Gibbs, Bettie Sue Ammon, George Thomas Wall, Ella Dean Cleveland, Birdie Mae Wall, and Robert Amos 'Bob' Wall. He is survived by his wife Sandra Harris Wall; children Mark Wall of Ridgeland, Tod Wall (Paula) of Decatur, and Susan Ezelle (Joey) of Union; grandchildren Anna Laurie Hamrick (Dustin), Ryan Ezelle, Daniel Wall, Luke Wall and Katelyn Wall; great granddaughters Adelyn and Averie Hamrick; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Pallbearers are Tod Wall, Ryan Ezelle, Daniel Wall, Luke Wall, Joey Ezelle, and Dustin Hamrick.

The family would like to thank caregivers with Accent Care Home Health and Hospice, Oschner/Laird Hospital and ER, and Doctors Patrick Eakes, Michael Garby, and John Adams, for their dedication and tender care.
