Union: Services for Mr. Dexter Taylor Akins, Sr. will be held at 11:00am, Thursday, November 30, 2023 at Milling Funeral Home Chapel of Union. Burial will be held at the MS Veteran Memorial Cemetery in Newton, MS. Bro. Dexter Akins, Jr. will officiate.

Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00am prior to Chapel services on Thursday.

Mr. Akins, age 65, passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2023 at Ochsner Rush Medical Center in Meridian. He served his country in the U.S Navy and upon retiring, he returned to Mississippi to spend more time with his family. His favorite past times were fishing, gaming (multi-player online gaming and Magic: The Gathering), and jamming out.

Mr. Dexter Akins, Sr. is survived by his daughter: Shari Celeste Cooper (Clay) of Decatur, son: Dexter Taylor Akins, Jr. (Rebekah) of Hernado, MS, grandchildren: Emerald Jean & Chloe Isabella Cooper, and Dexter Taylor "Trey" III, Logan, Mark, & Lydia Faith Akins, sisters: Donna Pope (Tim) and Sheila Noble, nephews: Benston & Bryant Pope, Derek, Brad, & Matthew Noble, and Wesley & Taylor Akins.

Mr. Akins is preceded in death by his parents: Benjamin Taylor & Shelby Jean Akins, and brother: Benson Akins.

When I learned about my Savior

I broke down and began to cry

From the Cross, He'd said a prayer

It was over, He'd been crucified

When I was told His blood was shed

I could not stop my flowing tears

I cried fearing He was dead

Then in three days, He reappeared

My tears were now tears of great joy

I embraced His great sacrifice

Now that all my sins were destroyed

I'd owed a debt, He paid my price

I heard Him whisper to my heart

My child, my blood now runs through you

From now until this Earth you part

I'll always depend upon you

He gave me courage to stand up

Because He had taken all my fears

Alashed them away with nail scarred hands

Then with His touch, He let me know
