Funeral services for Mr. Carl Gene Matthews will be held on Friday, November 15, 2024 at 2:30 PM at Montrose Baptist Church.  Visitation will begin at 2:00 PM until service time at the church.  Burial will be in Montrose Cemetery. Bro. Keith Boggan and Bro. Matt Crumpton will officiate.

Mr. Carl Gene Matthews, 79, on Montrose, MS passed away peacefully at his residence on Wednesday, November 13, 2024.  Mr. Matthews is survived by his daughters: Genia Phillips (Terry), Crystal Fries (Jim), and Karla Everett (Steve); grandchildren: Tommy Fries, Rebecca Chisholm, Alex Sanderson, Christopher Fries, Joseph Phillips, Hannah Fries, Brody Parkes, and Ty Everett; one brother, Vel Matthews (Brenda); and three great grandsons.

He is preceded in death by:  wife Hazel Jeanette Matthews, and his parents, Wilson and Kathleen Matthews.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Fries, Christopher Fries, Brody Parkes, Joseph Phillips, Matthew Chisholm, Ty Everett, and Kyle Sanderson.

Mr. Carl will be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother and friend.  He was know for his work ethic as well as his servants heart.  Mr. Carl was a faithful deacon at Montrose Baptist Church for numerous years.  He retired from La-Z-Boy with over 40 years of service, and also retired from Fire Chief of Montrose Fire Department and went on to serve his beloved community as mayor of Montrose.

To know Mr. Carl Matthews was to love him and he will truly be missed by all that knew him.
