Sebastopol: Betty Lee Jones, known to many, simply as Aunt Betty, passed on to her perfect dwelling place August 5, 2026. There she was reunited with her parents, Percy Powell and Susie Sharp Jones and her brother William Leroy “Roy” Jones who proceeded her in death.

Betty was born at home July 27, 1934, in Sebastopol, MS, where she lived until the passing of both of her parents in 1966.

Hermanville, MS then became her home next door to her brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Kate Jones and the nieces and nephew who were so special to her.

Later, she moved to Port Gibson, continuing to work at National Plastics until her retirement.

Some things never changed with Betty. One was the love and support for her nieces and nephew, Leta Edwards, Felicia Jacobson, Tonya Slaton and Bill Jones.

Another was the love of her extended family “back home” where she attended every family reunion and Cousins’ Day she possibly could.

Once Betty accepted Christ in her 70’s, being with fellow believers was a constant comfort to her. She rarely ever missed church. The members of Stepping Stone Baptist and First Baptist Church were devoted friends to Betty helping her in times of need and encouraging her in her spiritual growth.

For 50 years, Betty had a standing appointment with Linda Sue at Leona’s beauty shop where she not only was pampered every Thursday but babied and befriended.

A quiet and unassuming lady, Betty had traveled and done things most people would never guess.

Covering about 25 states, Scotland, France and England earned her the nickname Betty “Go” Jones.

When she wasn’t going, Betty knew how to be alone contently by reading, working word puzzles and jigsaw puzzles, playing with her cats and keeping up with numerous sports.

Betty’s life was made more joyful by two best friends who have gone on before, Doris Ivy and Sheila Ashley.

It was a special treat to see “Aunt” Betty’s face light up with recognition and then see her gift the ones she knew and loved with a beautiful smile.

Aside from her nieces and nephew she also leaves behind two great nieces, four great nephews and extended family.

The family would like to express our appreciation to Maggie Smith who was Aunt Betty’s sitter and a friend and to us all and the staff of St. Martin’s in the Pines.

Visitation will be Friday, August 14 at 10:00 am with the service following at 11:00 am at Milling Funeral Home in Sebastopol, MS. Burial will take place at Damascus Cemetery immediately after the service.
