Aysel Iyibilen Mowdy, a long-time resident of Newton and Lawrence, MS, passed away July 2, 2019.
Mrs. Mowdy was born and raised in Yalova, Turkey and moved to the United States with her husband
Joe Mowdy in 1969. Her friends and customers will remember her for her beauty shop, Magic Mirror, on
Main Street where several generations of families went for over 30 years. But her family will forever
hold her in their hearts as an amazing, strong, and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
One that maintained incredible courage, dignity, and kindness through the hardest times in her life as
well as the wonderful times in her life.

She is predeceased by her husband Joe Mowdy, and survived by her children Emel Martland, Sibel
Hammel and Dennis Mowdy; her grandchildren Nicole Castiglioni and Nicole's husband Jeffrey, Dillon
and Chelsea Hammel, Elizabeth Martland and Adam Mowdy; her great-grandchildren Emma, Arianna
and Logan Castiglioni whom she absolutely adored; and her sister Seher Ustundag. So incredibly loved
by her family and already missed so very much. Though it feels like a bright light has gone out, they
know that her spirit will always shine in their hearts.

A funeral service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, July 6th from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Milling
Funeral Home in Union following interment at Newton County Memorial Gardens.
