Mr. Anthony "Sonny" Sagona, Sr.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Anthony "Sonny" Sagona, Sr. on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at the age of 75 in Walnut Grove, MS.

Sonny was born on January 30, 1949 in Houma, LA to Anthony and Frances Sagona. He is the second of four children. His siblings are Linda, Mike and Cheri. He was married in 1968 to Jane Sagona. Together they had four children, Adele, Jolet, Julie and Andy.

Sonny and Jane moved from Houma to Walnut Grove, MS in 1992, where he quickly became well known as "Mr. Sagona," and well loved in the Sebastopol community. Anyone would say that he worked circles around men half his age, and he'd gladly give the shirt off his back to anyone who might need it. "Hard working" and "kind" are by far two of the most common compliments our family has heard describing him over the years.

But the biggest compliment has been that HE LOVED. We have all heard countless times "he loved you so much" since his passing. He would say THAT would be what he was most proud of. He was loved greatly, and he loved with everything in him.

His children gave him grandchildren, Natalie, Gage, Bailey, Abrey, Kade and Hayes.  And they game him great grandchildren, Zoey, Bowyn and Kohen. They were all the absolute joy of his life, and he never hesitated to let people know it. He'd pull his phone out of his shirt front pocket, and flip through pictures in a heartbeat, beaming, showing off his grandkids.

Sonny surrendered his life and professed Jesus as his savior on February 28, 2016, and became a member of Salem Baptist Church.  If there was ever an example of a "changed man", it is him.

His grandsons have proclaimed him "a legend."  So, we will celebrate the life of a legend this Thursday, November 21, 2024, at Salem Baptist Church in Lake, MS. Visitation will be at 10:00 AM with services at 11:00 AM. Bro. Larry Duncan will officiate.

2 Daughters: Adele McDill (Chris) of Sebastopol and Jolet Cormier (Chase) of Houma, LA

1 Son: Anthony "Andy" Sagona, Jr. (Penny) of Houma, LA

Grandchildren: Natalie Jimenez (Gabe), Gage Cormier (Lexi), Bailey Guidry (Haley) and Abrey Guidry

3 Great Grandchildren: Zoey, Bowyn and Kohen

2 Sisters: Linda Sagona of Houma, LA and Cheri Hoglind (Scott) of Houma, LA

1 Brother: Michael Sagona (Kathy) of Houma, LA

He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Sagona is preceded in death by his daughter: Julie Guidry and parents, Anthony and Frances Sagona.
